The test
How long does the test take?
The test has 30 questions and you have 25 minutes. Most people need about 15 to 22 minutes. Anyone who finishes early can submit before the time is up.
Do I have to sign up?
No. For the test you need neither an account nor an email address. We only ask for an email address when you buy the report, so that we can send you the download link.
Can I skip questions or go back?
Yes, for as long as the clock is running. You can move between all questions and change answers. Skipped questions count as unsolved at the end.
What happens when the time runs out?
The test is submitted automatically and scored with the answers given up to that point. There is a short grace period so that a slow connection costs nobody their last answer.
Will I get the same questions on a second attempt?
No. The questions are generated procedurally, and every test form is assembled afresh from a large bank. You will recognise question types, but hardly ever the same question. A certain practice effect remains all the same: the second score tends to come out somewhat higher, whichever provider you use.
Is the test suitable for children?
No. The test is built for adults, and the reference distribution applies to adults. For children the result depends heavily on age, which calls for an age-normed instrument. If a child is to be evaluated, the cantonal school psychology service is the right place to go.
The result
What do I see free of charge?
Right after the test you see how many questions you got right, how long you took and which band of the scale your result falls into. The exact value, the confidence interval and the profile across the five areas are part of the paid report.
Why is there an interval next to my IQ?
Because every measurement has an uncertainty. A short test with 30 questions estimates your ability, it does not measure it exactly. The 95 per cent confidence interval says: with that probability your true value lies inside this interval. With 30 questions it is about 25 points wide, the standard error being 6.4 IQ points, measured on 4000 simulated runs. That sounds like a lot, and it is a lot: that is how precise a short test is, whichever provider you use. Anyone selling you a score without that interval is withholding half the information.
How is the IQ calculated?
With a two-parameter model from item response theory and a guessing correction. Every question has a difficulty and a discrimination. From these we estimate which ability most probably explains your answer pattern. The value is then mapped onto the usual scale with mean 100 and standard deviation 15. The detailed description with the formulas is on the method page.
Is the result comparable to a clinical IQ test?
Only roughly. A standardised instrument administered by a qualified professional takes one to two hours, runs under controlled conditions and is normed on a representative sample. Our test is a short test in a browser. It gives a usable orientation value and expressly not a clinical assessment.
Can I use the result to prove giftedness?
No. For Mensa or a school evaluation only recognised, supervised instruments count. Our test can suggest whether an evaluation might be worth it, nothing more.
Price and payment
What does the report cost?
Result CHF 19.00, Result and profile CHF 29.00. One-off, no subscription, no renewal. The test itself is and stays free.
How can I pay?
By credit card or TWINT. Payment runs through Stripe. Your payment details never reach our server, we only see that a payment has arrived.
Is there a subscription?
No. There is exactly one payment for exactly one report. Nothing is stored that would be charged again later.
Do I get my money back if something does not work?
Yes. If the report cannot be produced for technical reasons or is faulty, we refund the full amount. Beyond that a goodwill period of 14 days applies. The details are in the refund terms.
Data and data protection
Which data is stored?
Your answers, the timestamps and the calculated result, linked to a random session key. On a purchase the email address is added and, if you enter one, the name for the certificate. We store no payment data.
Do you use tracking or advertising cookies?
Advertising cookies, no. Reach measurement, yes: we use Google Analytics 4 with the IP address shortened, and two cookies are set for it. No advertising pixels, no ad networks. The fonts still sit on our own server. We also count page views ourselves, without a cookie and without recognising anyone. Your answers and your result are not passed to Google.
Can I have my data deleted?
Yes. Write to us with the order number or the session key and we will delete the record. For accounting we have to keep the payment receipts, that is a legal requirement.
Certificate
What is the certificate worth?
It documents that you took this test at that time with that result, and it can be verified on our site using the verification code. It is not an official document and not a psychological report. For a job application or admission to an organisation it is not enough.
How does verifying the certificate work?
Every certificate carries a verification code. Anyone who enters it on the certificate page sees the date of issue and the result. Without the code nothing can be looked up.
